‘The Pitt’ Season 3 to Have Each of 3,600 Episodes Take Place Over The Course Of Fifteen Seconds

Since The Pitt’s release in 2025, fans have been defecating themselves out of stress watching the tense ER drama. And for the upcoming third season, the stakes just got even higher: creator R. Scott Gemmill announced that this season will feature 3,600 episodes that are each fifteen seconds long. Gemmill wanted to maintain the structure of previous seasons, in which episodes were set in real time over the course of a single 15-hour shift. However, in an effort to improve his chances at the Emmys, he split the shift into 3,600 episodes, each of which will be submitted to the Emmys for “Best Direction” consideration.

As to how he did it, Gemmill was happy to explain: “Basically, we just took the pre-existing one-hour episodes and cut them into a bunch of tiny pieces,” he said. “It’s just like yummy bread,” he continued, without elaborating.

Critics are already calling this season of The Pitt the one with the “most cliffhangers yet,” mainly because everyone keeps getting cut off mid-sentence. Viewers who enjoy the high-stakes emergency surgery scenes will love episodes like 239, “Pass Me the Fine Scissors” and 240, “Okay, Now Pass Me the DeBakeys.” Those who just watch the show for the actors will be thrilled to hear that season 3 features over 50 episodes of the doctors walking with purpose down hallways.

Despite its new format, producers John Wells and Noah Wyle still want The Pitt to feel like a television show rather than a bunch of TikToks, so they have added a title sequence and a full three minutes of unskippable credits to each episode. To help fans dig deeper into the narrative, HBO Max will continue its release of the official companion podcast “The Pitt Podcast,” where culture writer Hunter Harris and Dr. Alok Patel dig deep into each episode, spending over two hours unpacking every fifteen second installment.

The rollout of season 3 will still follow a standard release format, with 40 new episodes releasing weekly. However, to prevent viewers from binge-streaming, every individual episode will be released at different and undisclosed times throughout the week. “It’s release strategies like this that keep television alive and exciting,” Wyle said. “Who knows, if all goes well this season, maybe next season we will make the episodes even shorter.”
